Port Byron CSD Names Valedictorian and Salutatorian for Class of 2022

After years of pushing themselves to be the best they can be, Kira McLoughlin and Emilia Gislason have been named the Port Byron CSD class of 2022 valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively.

“I am honored and ecstatic to be named the Port Byron class of 2022 valedictorian,” said McLoughlin.

McLoughlin, who was involved in student government, environmental club, yearbook club and masterminds during her time at Port Byron, plans on attending the University at Buffalo in the fall for biomedical engineering. She is currently taking online summer courses at Cayuga Community College and Fingerlakes Community College.

Gislason said she was extremely excited to be named salutatorian.

“It was very, very exciting for me. I feel like I’ve worked hard my whole school career to make sure I, in my heart, did my best. It’s just so nice to be recognized for all my hard work,” said Gislason.

During her time at Port Byron, Gislason was involved with masterminds, student government, environmental club and was in choir. She plans on attending Cayuga Community College in the fall before hopefully transferring to a SUNY school to earn a degree in biochemistry.

Both students had a lot of good memories from their time in Port Byron. Gislason said coming back for her senior year after being remote last year tops the list. McLoughlin said she loved her eighth-grade trip to Washington D.C. and of course their senior trip to Boston.

Graduation is scheduled for Friday, June 24th at 7:30PM at the stadium.
