Students from Sara St. Pierre’s Port Byron High School Ceramics class have created beautiful, handmade ceramic bowls to donate to Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes for their annual Empty Bowls event. The event, which will take place during World Food Week, spreads awareness of hunger and food insecurity challenges in our communities.

St. Pierre has been collaborating with Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes for the past ten years to support the event.  

“Any empty bowl is symbolic to those who don’t have food. So, the empty bowls project became a project of artisans and art for us to remember symbolically that there are so many people out there who do go home to an empty bowl,” said St. Pierre.

Attendees of the dinner will choose a bowl to take home with them as a reminder of those people in our own neighborhoods who suffer from hunger and lack of access to nutritious food choices.  

Ticket proceeds go directly to Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes programs and support food pantries across the region. The dinner event takes place in Auburn on October 26.
