Port Byron Graduation Rates at 98 Percent for 2022

Port Byron Central School District’s class of 2022 had a 98 percent graduation rate, which tied for first among Cayuga County school districts. This data was recently announced by the New York State Department of Education. Statewide, the graduation rate was 87 percent for 2022.

“We are very proud of the students from the class of 2022. We know they will continue to do great things in the future,” Superintendent Mike Jorgensen said.

Jorgensen said that academic success requires a collective effort from students, families, school staff members, the community, and the Board of Education.

The numbers reflect graduations as of August 2022. Totals include students who earned Regents diplomas (34) and Regents diplomas with advanced designation (24).

“The growth and success we have seen over the past several years is a result of the community working together to do what is best for its children,” Jorgensen said.

Kim Brown, Principal of Port Byron High School said that graduation rates are one of many pieces of data which signify success in a district. He also noted that achieving such a high rate requires immense effort from many individuals.

“From the students and the parents to the teachers and counselors, we are very fortunate to work in a building where discovering solutions is of great importance,” Brown said.
