Welcome Back to School 2021-2022

  • August 24, 2021

    Dear Port Byron Families,

Over the past few weeks, we have received guidance documents from the Center for Disease Conh·ol (CDC), the New York State Education Department (NYSED), and the Cayuga County Health Department (CCHD) regarding how we can safely return all of our students and staff members to school in September.

In addition to thoroughly reviewing the guidance documents, we have had hours of conversations with different stakeholder groups to discuss COVID-19 mitigation strategies in school. Our reopening plan is a product of those conversations.

At last night's Board of Education meeting, I presented the information included in the attached document. Our main goals for the start of the year are to get all of our students safely back in school and, once they are here, keep them in school without major interruptions to in-person learning.

The reopening plan gives us our best opportunity to achieve those goals. Our plan is based on the most recent guidance and the current infection rates in Cayuga County. We will continue to work with the CCHD, our community members, and the surrounding school districts to monitor and adjust our plan to best meet our students' needs.

As always, please reach out to us with questions or concerns. We are looking forward to the start of the 2021-2022 school year.
