2019 Scholastic Art Award Winners Announced

This week, the winners of the 2019 Scholastic Art Awards were announced for the region, and a few Port Byron students were recognized for their incredible entries.

Jenna McKay and Zachary Dennis received “Silver Key” awards for their photography submissions, “Inner Beauty” from the former, and “Docked” and “Dazed” from the latter. Miranda Lipiska also received honorable mention for her entry, “Bubbly.”

Making this accomplishment even more impressive is the fact that all three students are seniors in Port Byron’s Photography program... which is only in its first year of existence! These three clearly have a knack for the discipline.

Visual Arts Teacher Corrine McAuliffe noted that the 12th grade photography category had over 1,000 submissions, so being recognized from among such a great number entries is no small feat. “We are all extremely proud of our art students at Port Byron, for their hard work and dedication to the visual arts,” said Corrine.

There will be an award ceremony for Gold and Silver Key winners held at Onondaga Community College’s (OCC) SRC Arena on Jan. 22. An exhibit displaying the winning submissions will remain at OCC's Whitney Applied Technology Center from Jan. 22 through Mar. 1, and will be open to the public.

Amazing job, Jenna, Zachary, and Miranda!
