Port Byron senior Haleigh Reese will attend SUNY Oswego in the fall.

Class of 2017 Senior Spotlight: Haleigh Marie Reese

Thanks to Port Byron Central School District's partnership with Cayuga Community College, graduating senior Haleigh Reese is no stranger to college-level academics.

“My advice to underclassmen is to take as many college courses as you can during high school,” Haleigh said.

This fall, Haleigh plans to attend SUNY Oswego where she will study radiology technology. She hopes to one day work in a hospital as a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technician.

While attending Dana L. West Junior/Senior High School, Haleigh was a member of Student Government Association, National Honor Society, jazz choir, the drama and environmental clubs, and served as Class of 2017’s treasurer. She also contributed to Panther Press (print editions) and studied several college-level courses.

Many of Haleigh’s favorite high school memories took place during Advanced Placement United States History class – also called APUSH.

“It was a fun class because we were all so close,” she said. “On our last day of junior year APUSH class, we received paper plate awards and they were hilarious.”

She also enjoyed traveling to Costa Rica during her freshman year.

“We visited an orphanage, which was really eye-opening,” she said. “The trip made me appreciate everything I have a little more.”
Haleigh said her parents, Stephanie and Thomas Reese, are her role models.

“They always push me to work to my full potential and support me through everything,” she said.

Things she’ll miss most about high school include seeing her friends in the hallways and attending drama rehearsals. She said she won’t miss waking up at 6:30 in the morning, though.

“Although it was stressful at times, I am thankful for the tools Port Byron has given to me to begin my college career,” she said. “I’m also thankful for all the friends I’ve made during my time here.”

Haleigh has two sisters, Natalee and Macenzie, one brother, Jacson.
