Port Byron senior Jared Foster will study computer security next fall.

Class of 2016 Senior Spotlight: Jared Foster

Port Byron Central School District Class of 2017 member Jared Foster plans to achieve collegiate success the same way he did in high school: by setting goals.

"The most challenging task I faced in high school was meeting the goals I set for myself," Jared said.

This fall, Jared plans to study computer security in college. He has not yet chosen which institute he will attend, but he hopes to one day work as either a network security specialist or in penetration testing, which is the practice of testing a computer system, network or Web application to find vulnerabilities that an attacker could exploit.

While attending Dana L. West Junior/Senior High School, Jared was a National Honor Society member and independently practiced Mixed Martial Arts at East West MMA.

"Joining an MMA class was a significant moment in my life because it gave me a clear and concise goal to work towards," Jared said.

As he prepares to leave high school, Jared said he’s going to miss his friends.

Something he won’t miss?

"Math class," he said.

His favorite subject was English.

This summer, Jared plans to spend time working and resting up for his future. He is the son of Howard and Beth Foster. He has one sister, Kaitlin.
