Change in school calendar; no school Friday, May 24

As a result of meeting Superintendent Neil O'Brien's challenge to fill an A-Verdi container with goods to be donated to the local food pantry, there will be no school this Friday, May 24.

On May 21, Port Byron Central School District voters approved the district's $19.9 million 2013-14 budget proposal, elected two Board of Education members and approved three propositions. more

James Wood is the new principal in the Dana West building.On May 8, the Port Byron Board of Education approved hiring James Wood as the next Dana West Jr./Sr. High School principal effective July 1. more

Budget newsletter now available; public hearing set for Wednesday, May 8

Image of pie chartThe May 2013 Budget Edition newsletter for the Port Byron Central School District is now available for download by clicking here. The newsletter provides detailed information about the proposed 2013-14 school budget adopted by the Port Byron Board of Education on April 10 and which will be voted upon on May 21. A printed newsletter has been be mailed to all district residents. District residents are encouraged to attend a public budget hearing at the Lehn Library on May 8 at 7 p.m. to learn more.

May Athletes of the Month announced

Varsity track athlete and senior Nick Stornelli and sophomore varsity softball player Maria Morgenthaler have been named Port Byron Central School District's Athletes of the Month for May. more

 

District-wide food drive underway

Food drive imageA food drive is underway in Port Byron to benefit the Port Byron Community Food Pantry. But, this isn't your typical food drive. Students, staff and community members are being asked to fill an A-Verdi storage container with donations. If the goal is reached, the entire district will be closed down as a reward on May 24, which is the Friday before Memorial Day. more

Superintendent Neil O'Brien discusses proposed budget

Image of pie chartIn his weekly message on April 19, Superintendent Neil O'Brien discussed the proposed budget, budget highlights and propositions:

The proposed budget for the 2013-14 school year has been approved by the Board of Education and is ready for review and a vote by residents on May 21 in the Athletic Center lobby. The budget is $19,986, 885 and represents an increase of 5.16 percent from this year's budget. The tax levy increase is 1.2 percent. more

 

Health insurance assistance comes to Port Byron

The Booker T. Washington Community Center (BTW) has begun providing health insurance enrollment assistance at Dana L. West Jr./Sr. High School in the Port Byron Central School District through the Facilitated Enrollment Program. more

In an effort to better meet the requirements of the 2012 Open Meeting Law, the Port Byron Board of Education will soon be using a paperless Board agenda program called BoardDocs to disseminate information for its meetings. more

Early dismissal for Friday, Feb. 8, 2013

Due to the impending storm, the Port Byron Central School District will be shortening the school day. There will be no afternoon BOCES or UPK. Dana West students will be dismissed at 12:50 p.m. and A.A. Gates students will be dismissed at 2 p.m. The Port Byron District facility will be closed at 3 p.m.

The Community Fitness Center will remain closed all day today, Friday, Feb. 8, 2013.
